illumos-userland is a build framework containing recipes for userland software, such as OpenSSL, GNU Tar, etc, and is similar to the FreeBSD ports tree or NetBSD pkgsrc project.
The framework is derived from Oracle's userland-gate, and is used to build all the software in Illumian and a large amount of the software in OpenIndiana.
